I Rod Sparkes live in Cleethorpes and race in the Cleethorpes imperial flying club which is one of the strongest clubs in the federation. My base pigeons are the van de Rhees which most came from Kevin Hurst who made sure I got the very best as he was my ex partner in racing as Sparkes and Hurst. I breed round top performance pigeons and champion breeders and pair winners to winners and sons and daughters of winners to sons and daughters of winners.
In the last few years I have had some real fantastic champion racers one was champion "Young Armando" winning 17x1sts 3x1st sect feds and 3x1st open feds inc. 42 prizes and 18 fed positions in the first 15 against up to 4,800 birds he was also 1st Ace young bird in 2000 and 1st Ace old bird in the federation in 2002. The other champion was champion "Terminator" this cock was awesome he was only raced for 2 years and won 3x1st sect feds and 3x1st open feds inc 2nd sect fed and 2nd open fed beaten by "Young Armando" he won 11x1sts and won a R.P.R.A. Region Award and was 1st ace old bird in the federation in 2002 with "Young Armando" and 1st Ace old bird in 2003.In my mind these was two of the best cocks ever to come out of the east section. I have never seen any cock in the east sect with 3x1st opens besides these two. I race no more than 24 widow cocks and 40 to 50 young birds, I only race from one loft which is 19ft in length I would say its one of the smallest set ups in the federation but you know the old saying its not how big the loft is its what’s in it what counts. I have won best young bird of the year 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, and best old bird 2001,2002,2003, In the 6 years I have raced from 23 may street ive been 3x1st federation champion highest prize winner and 2nd runner up in 2005 against up to 5,900 birds and 350 members.
